Shakerbuilt's Straight Axle Swap on Seth's 92 Toyota. |

| I have a friend named Seth that helped me doing odd things around here with the 4x4 work on my trucks. We did this truck a few years ago now. He has always wanted to do something with his truck beyond the normal bolt on stuff. When he saw another Toyota that I did a SAS (Straight Axle Swap) on he kept it in his mind that's what he wanted to do someday to his. We started gathering pieces here and there to do a SAS kit to do his during his "Spring Break" from his senior year in High School. We figured out what he wanted to do to his truck and It took a few weeks of preparation for the "Slam Session" on his trucks transformation. I talked to all of my friends in the 4x4 world and saw what they had lying around to help him with his swap. It was a BIG learning experience for him because he never had much experience with 4x4 stuff until he started hanging around here. There won't be any question to what he did during his spring break when he heads back to school-LOL. Below are pictures during the progress of getting everything ready and installation. | ||

It's hard to believe doing the assembly takes longer than the SAS job does.... |

Lucky for Seth we put his steering up and no chance of getting hit off road which can ruin a good wheeling trip. |

Here's what it looks like from the front of the truck. Now that the front is done time for a new "Centerforce" clutch to handle the new suspension and what he'll be doing with it off road...he he he |

After dropping the Trans. & X-case he could remove the old clutch to install the new one. Here are a few pics while he was under there wrenching |

Switched the 4cyl. rear 3'rd out for a 6 cyl. 3'rd set up to match the front gears/locker. They handle lockers better because of the larger bearings and stronger casting 'ribs'. |

| It has been rolling for a few months now and Seth has been exploring the trucks capabilities off road. He is learning the advantages of having "Lockers" front and back. He started rolling on 35 in. Boggers right after the transformation that I had for "Burn Down" tires. The truck looked very nice with the lift and tire combination. Seth did decide after the 35's were gone to buy a set of the new 38 x 15 Boggers which looked very nice on the truck but when it came to flexing out the suspension they ate up the fenders badly. Seth was also in a little "fender bender" that wasn't his fault but he was "shaken" about his truck being to tall the cops said so he took the 7 in. front spring out and put some 4 in. ones in the front and lowering the rear to match. The new 38's had to go because they had no more clearance so I put them on my truck and sold my 35's I had. While he is running around on some 31 in. tires while he is setting up his new rear Dana 60 axle with a Air Locker and disc brakes to put in the rear. Seth also got some 8 lug "outters" to convert his truck to 8 lug. While he is putting the rear axle in he will also be putting some 63 in. chevy rear springs to give crazy flex to match the front. I will be posting pics as that gets done in the near future. Check back soon.... | ||
